Thinking back on this movie, Rick, I get goosebumps. I thought it was bloody good. I’m not sure I got to the bottom of the symbolism in it, but the mood of the movie appears to me to be so saturated with archetypal, soulful meaning, I want to see it again.

Very nice job on this review. I’ve been wanting to watch this movie for a while now and finally caught it last night. It’s a strange beast in the modern American mainstream cinematic landscape, deliberately paced and powerfully quiet at times, and populated with subtle connections and interconnections (such as the scene with the three horses foreshadowed by the illustration in the Realm and Conquest book, and Arthur’s use of a replicated cover of the same book to encapsulate the copies he’s made of the damning evidence against U-North) that work with equal effectiveness at both conscious and unconscious levels.

As always, it’s a pleasure to come to this site and read such a thoughtful, well-considered commentary on a movie I’ve found personally meaningful.
