Introducing the KWML archetypes: The Warrior

posted by Eivind on February 20, 2011, at 1:10 pm

After a long wait, the video for the Warrior archetype is finally ready. (note that the 3-4 first minutes drag on a bit and then it gets more fun)

This video was recorded at the same time as the video for the King archetype (in Holland, December 2010) with Peter Kessels and Pelle Billing as my audience. I learned a lot by watching myself and receiving feedback from you after releasing that one and I would have done this video on the Warrior differently and more structured if I had a chance to redo the take. But I'm going to release it anyway, warts and all, and hope that it helps some of you. It has certainly helped me to record it.

I will record the Magician at the beginning of March. I will take whatever feedback you have offered me for the King and the Warrior (below) into consideration when doing that one.

I have also opened a discussion of this movie in the KWML group of The Masculinity Movies Tribe. I invite you all to participate there.

  1. When I speak about sadomasochism at one point in the movie, I speak about the total shadowcomplex of the Warrior archetype. I'm not referring to the sexual deviation.
  2. When I refer to the mother being present in the relationship of a man with poor internal warriors, I don't refer to her physical presence. I refer to the presence of a limiting feminine force inside the relationship that can be traced to the man's relationship to his mother.
  3. In one section, I refer to the presence of shadow Warrior in environmental activist groups, new agers etc. I can, however, think of healthy Warrior energy in these organizations, especially environmental ones. Greenpeace and Sea Shepherd come to mind, even though I don't really know them at all. (would be nice with feedback about this below)

  • As inspiring as the King was! I loved what you said about being able to say fuck you to some one. Both to be able to be a lover, and to ahve strong boundaries. Yes, many men are to soft & gentle nowadays. The warrior is the way through this, with guidance from the king.

I have had computer issues, so have just watched this now. I am going to watch it again, & digest.

  • Wonderful!

I have learned a lot about compassion from the Dalai Lama. But he is not “nice!” It is not that we HAVE to be nice or not. It is that “nice,” for me, is not authentic or genuine. There is a lot here!

I look forward to the next two!

  • Great to hear that you got something out of it, Aaron and Clark.

Is being nice never an expression of authenticity in your view, Clark? I agree that “nice” is not the most applicable word when it comes to the Dalai Lama. But I think he is definitely kind. Is that a word that has been less “tainted” perhaps?
